About the course

Baking at Tuxford Windmill is a practical baking course. You will be guided through a series of easy steps, from mixing ingredients, kneading and shaping the dough, to baking the bread. Learn the skills and artistry of hand bread making that is so often overlooked in the recipe books - and in turn  you will become a more confident home baker!

During the day you will use and compare some different stone-ground organic flours to make a range of crusty and tin loaves, baking with dried and fresh yeast. You will also find out how different flours are made, and experience the bread making qualities of white and wholemeal flours. You will learn how to shape loaves, with different toppings and finishes adding another dimension to your every day bread.

The small group sizes will ensure you get the most from the practical baking sessions and will offer plenty of opportunity to answer questions. Our discussions between the baking sessions will include flour, baking tools, and storing bread.

This course is ideal for anyone new to bread baking or those wishing to be more consistent in their bread baking.

Cost:       

 

                           £125  per person 

 

                                  We provide:        Ingredients and baking equipment, refreshments during the day, a delicious

                                      Bakers Lunch with fresh home baked bread, an apron and other goodies.

You will make:    3 batches of dough during the day to make rolls,

  two tin loaves and two  crusty loaves. Recipe sheets are provided.

         Please bring:      Boxes/baskets for your bread.

               9.30am   Welcome. Tea /coffee

                The ingredients and the process – Flour and yeast

                 Making rolls and crusty round loaves

                 Tin loaf and Bloomer - Cut crusts and finishes

 

1.00pm     Lunch – Bakers lunch

 

   1.30pm        Success with wholemeal flours - mixing flour

                 Tin loaf and crusty loaf - Rustic finishes

 

4.30pm        End of course.

Please enclose your name and address and contact details (and be sure to make us aware of any special dietary requirements you may have for the day).

 

Refunds:

v      Cancellations with 14 days notice will get a full refund

v      Cancellations with 7 days notice will get a 50% refund

v      We are sorry but we will not be able to refund late cancellations

       (cancellations in writing please!)

v In the unlikely event we have to cancel the day your payment will be refunded in full
