Are we Milling today?

         August 18, 2008    -    YES!!

The windmill is a working windmill - and the following chart gives a rough guide

as to what is possible:

 

 

              0 - 5 Mph       Calm   

              5 - 10 Mph     Enough to turn the sails, but not enough to grind

            10 - 15 Mph     Decent wind - we could be milling

            15 - 20 Mph     Ideal milling wind

            20 Mph +         Getting to be a bit too much for windy!

 

Of course there may be other factors on any day that mean we are not milling:

• Maintenance (heavy machinery needs a lot of TLC)

• Miller is doing a farmers market (we have to sell the flour as well as make it)

• Miller is too tired (well it can be hard work!)
